On a winter morning, there’s nothing quite as heartwarming as a cup of coffee before heading out to ski. With this thought in mind, I opened the door to “Coffee MOK,” located near the bus terminal in Nozawa Onsen.
As I stepped inside, I was enveloped by an atmosphere filled with an exotic charm. The interior, with its warm wooden tones and tastefully displayed artwork, reflected the owners’ keen sense of style at every turn.
Sitting at the counter, I was greeted by the owner’s kind smile. “Welcome. What can I get for you today?” His warm voice instantly melted away my travel fatigue.
The menu featured classic coffee options like espresso and cappuccino, as well as unique offerings like amazake latte and a wide selection of craft beers. The breakfast menu was also impressive, with choices like English muffins and breakfast burritos.
After much deliberation, I decided on the amazake latte and carrot cake. The amazake latte had a subtle sweetness that perfectly complemented the coffee’s flavor, bringing a smile to my face. The carrot cake was memorable for its moist texture and rich aroma.
I naturally struck up a conversation with a foreign tourist sitting next to me. “The coffee here is amazing,” “The carrot cake is my favorite.” We exchanged brief thoughts, feeling the joy of connecting in a foreign land.
As I sipped my coffee, I listened to the relaxing music flowing through the café. The morning sun shining through the large windows illuminated the snow-capped mountains.
This small café is filled with warmth and tranquility. It welcomes visitors with open arms and soothes their souls. This must be a result of the owners’ personalities and their dedication to great coffee.
Coffee MOK is a hidden gem in Nozawa Onsen. Stopping by before or after skiing allows for a moment of respite. The delicious coffee and food satisfy both the body and the heart.
This is a special café I discovered on my journey. It’s a place that strongly makes me want to visit again.
